What movies would you guys say define our generation?

What movies will people remember from our generation in 20 years time?

The only movie i can think of right now is, The Hurt Locker.
Not only is it a fantastic film, but it represents an important and somewhat dark period of our generation.

if you ask me our generation is going to be known for comic book movies. that being said, I think the marvel cinematic universe will be the one defining series in our history.

Very true, thus movies like the Dark Knight trilogy, which is the second largest production in terms of action movies ever will also be written in history.

My favorite style of movie is one of an art that is long dead. Parody. A long time ago, parody was wonderful. It's sole purpose was to make satire out of it's main subject matter in the most anti-subtle way possible, while still sticking to that core matter. Some of the greatest examples of this style are the works of Mel Brooks. He directed some of the greatest parodies of all time, like Spaceballs, Young Frakenstein, Blazing Saddles, the list goes on. They were amazing. Today, Parody in movies is how many references to something else you can put in an hour and a half film. A...good example of this kind of parody is the "Movie" series. For example, Epic Movie, Disaster Movie, Scary Movie (**I only really thought the first one was deserving of the distinction of being a funny movie).
If you look at every single one of these, it is nothing, NOTHING but reference after reference. I don't know about Scary Movie 5, maybe they didn't do that, but I didn't see it, so I don't know, but considering hollywood puts anything on the screen that sells, I'm not holding out for that. References are funny, don't get me wrong. I actually think they are really fun to see. Just not a million times, and definitely not when they are used with no context or reason.

**More on Scary Movie 1, I say this movie was funny because for the time it came out, it was pretty funny. It hadn't been done before in the way it was done, and it was hilarious. But then they killed it by making 3(4?) Carbon copies of it. It's really sad how easily something good can be turned into something bad.

For my part, I like yet another kind of parody - the social/political in the likes of «Dr. Strangelove» or «Full Metal Jacket». They just don't do enough of these anymore sadly :/
