So this has been a great battle over the ages regarding whether marvel is better than DC or vice versa, personally I'm biased towards marvel due to the fact that their cinematic universe is FAR superior to DC's but with hit movies like the Dark Knight trilogy, and from what I've heard about the Man of Steel, DC might be on their way to matching marvel in that department. I just wanna know what you guys prefer and why!

Oh god Cynthia, WHYYYYYYYYYY? Why are you doing this to me?
Now I'll have to waste half my life here.

Me personally? My favourite superhero is Spider-Man. His was the first comic book I ever read, and the one whose comic books I have read the most. I have read almost every important moment in Spidey's history (Still haven't read One More Day, which I hear sucks balls, and Brand New Day, which I hear is fantastic). My favourite Spidey villain is Mysterio, with Venom coming as a close second. Bla bla bla, I could go on for ages, so I won't.

My favourite DC Hero is Superman, hands down. While Batman is definitely more dark and gritty, Superman is based on the ideal superhero. He is what we all strive to be. Good, kind, generous, and so on. Superman encompesses the best humanity has to offer, and regardless, he has flaws. He is human, he has fears and regrets. He makes mistakes, and has a strong sense of responsibility. He has some of the most complex and interesting villains comic books have to offer (Lex Luthor being the prime example), and one of the most interesting origin stories I've read.

What am I trying to say here? Oh yes, I don't really think one is better than the other.
Both DC and Marvel have great heroes and great villains, and really, the thing that separates them is very simple.
Marvel heroes are very much down to earth. They are usually normal people, given powers through different means. They have to deal with everyday problems, as well as 'superhero' stuff. They are. in a nutshell, very relatable, which is exactly what they meant to be.
DC Heroes, on the other hand, are very complex, very out of this world. They usually have extremely diverse and crazy backstories. They are people you would never expect to actually exist. Because of this, they aren't as relatable as Marvel heroes, but in a sense, that's their point.
I think ItsJustSomeRandomGuy put it best when he said something along the lines of "Marvel heroes are heroes you relate to, while DC heroes are ones you aspire to be."

That's my 2 cent, for now.
It's a bit messy, but next time I'll try to be more coherent.

That brought a tear to my eye, it was written so beautifully... I feel that having heroes we relate to is better than what we aspire to be, because as we can see the heroes on the marvel side are both relatable and on their journeys grow into the people we aspire to be. But that's just personal Opinion. My favorite Hero is on the Marvel side Being Wolverine, but my favorite Heroine is Super Girl, so it's kinda a 50/50 for me as well in the comic book world.

Marvel. Why? Because they didn't take God and slap a shiny red "S" on his chest.

I don't see why the fact that Superman is so powerful is a bad thing.

Because there's no good fights with him. Everyone knows who's going to win when he fights. Either him, or the person with the Kryptonite, like Metallo or good old Lex.

Why does that matter? Just because Superman can't really lose any fights, that doesn't make him a non-compelling character.
What about Superman's internal struggles? His emotional struggles? Those are what attract me the most to his character.
Also, because Superman IS so powerful, it is much more interesting when he is in a state of powerlessness.

Also, Kryptonite doesn't turn Superman into a whimpering puppy like most people think. It gradually takes his power away, and on several occasions, Superman was able to power through it and win, despite the Kryptonite.

Superman doesn't have any struggles at all, he is a being of ultimate perfection. His female counter part however does have internal struggles simply because she was alive to see the destruction of her planet.

Superman has plenty of struggles. Most of them are internal, but he does occasionally have an external struggle he must overcome. Comics like Superman : Birthright, All-Star Superman, Superman: For All Seasons delve into what it means to be Superman very well, and show some of the internal struggles Superman deals with.
Another great 'Elseworlds' story. or two, which show how hypothetical circumstances would greatly affect Superman, are Superman: Red Son and Kingdom Come.

What I'm trying to get across is, read some of the more well known Superman stories before you judge him merely on preconceptions.

I've read and watched All Star Superman, as well as the Red Son superman, neither story is cannon to the series and as such should be dismissed as supermen from other Earths, furthermore Red Son superman is NOT the Superman we see in modern day comics, as the point of Red Son was to make a story that went full circle with the entire DC universe and show how History repeats itself a little differently each time.

Getting back to what was originally said, Superman is perfect. Which is exactly why he is the most flawed DC character in the entire DC Universe (Irony ftw). Why? Because what does he have to be afraid of? Nothing. After you telling me his weakness is more of a hindrance than an actual weakness, what the hell does he have to be afraid of? Dying? He's immortal. Losing to somebody? He has more power and strength than any other character. Losing loved ones? He's immortal, remember? Give him a couple hundred years and I doubt he'll even care anymore.

You can't take A god-like figure and then turn him into THE god-like figure. There's no reason to worry about him, there's no way to connect to him, and the only thing I find myself wondering about is how devastated Lois probably is everyday knowing she'll never grow old with Supes. I find myself sympathizing with Lois. Yes , Lois. One of the most annoying characters I've ever known. That's how much I simply don't care about Supes. Sad, isn't it?
